Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the third National Climate Assessment released by the White House today:

"This National Climate Assessment is a stark and urgent reminder that climate change is a challenge we cannot afford to ignore.

"The verdict of science is clear: climate change is real, and communities across America are already feeling the effects. Rising temperatures, longer droughts, more frequent floods, surging seas and shifting seasons are taking a growing toll on our world. The window for us to avert even greater catastrophe is swiftly closing, and we must act to secure a sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come.

"There is no time left to deny the reality of climate change, or to turn a blind eye on the impact it is having on our country. We cannot afford more Republican votes to reject science, empower polluters, and roll back our commitments to innovation and efficiency. Only by working together can we meet the challenge before us. Let us answer the clarion call of this report, and renew our efforts to create clean energy jobs, preserve our environment, reduce carbon pollution, and reverse the rising tide of climate change."
