San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Republican leadership announced that the House would vote next week for the 38th time to repeal and undermine essential protections of the Affordable Care Act:

“Next week’s Republican agenda feels like déjà vu all over again. Republican leaders continue to refuse to bring up a single jobs bill, enact a responsible budget, or address the priorities of the American people. Instead, the House will vote for the 38th time to repeal and undermine the protections of the Affordable Care Act – when we are still waiting to vote for the first time to create jobs and strengthen the middle class.

“No matter what Republicans claim, they cannot hide from the facts. To delay the shared responsibility requirement means Republicans would undermine access to affordable coverage for the 129 million Americans with pre-existing medical conditions. It’s just plain wrong.

“Americans are sick and tired of Republicans’ ideological assault on the health and economic security of the middle class. As the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented and as patients benefit from the protections of this landmark law, it’s time for Republicans to turn their attention to our core challenges: putting people to work and growing the economy.”
