Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Norm Dicks announced he would not seek re-election to Congress this year:
“Congressman Norm Dicks has served the people of Washington with distinction, commitment, vision, and passion over the course of his career. He is a proud son of his home state and a lifelong public servant – working for the state in the Senate and for more than three decades as a strong advocate for Washington’s 6th district in the House of Representatives.
“Always putting the interests of his community first, Congressman Dicks has remained a tireless advocate for commerce, businesses large and small, and working people across Washington. As a leader on the Appropriations Committee, he has stood firm for his top priorities: jobs, economic growth, and a strong middle class. He has never stopped fighting to protect and preserve our national defense – supporting our troops, advancing our security, and investing in a strong, modern military.
“Over 18 terms in the House, Congressman Dicks has earned the respect of his colleagues and the trust of his constituents. It has been an honor to serve with him. We wish him, his wife, Suzie, and their entire family our best wishes in their future endeavors.”
