San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement in celebration of Nowruz, the Persian New Year:
"With the arrival of spring, Iranian Americans in California and across the country join their friends and neighbors as well as millions around the world to celebrate Nowruz and welcome in the new year. For Iranian Americans, this is season of rebirth and renewal, a chance to reflect on the trials of the previous year and look forward with hope to the year ahead.
"This wonderful celebration offers all Americans the opportunity to recognize America's beautiful diversity and the generations of Iranian Americans whose hard work, ingenuity and patriotism have strengthened our nation. In California, we are deeply proud that half of the Iranian American community calls our state home, bringing their vibrant culture and traditions to enrich our communities, reaffirming the fundamental truth that immigrants make America more American.
"This Nowruz, as we continue to confront the pandemic and economic crisis, we pray for all those in the Iranian American community who have been impacted by this vicious virus. We are also grateful for the countless Iranian American heroes working on the frontlines of this crisis to keep our communities safe and our families healthy. As we look with hope and promise to the year ahead, may all who celebrate Nowruz in America and around the world be blessed with a year of peace, prosperity and the love of family. Eide shoma mobarak!"
