Pelosi Statement on the Persian New Year

San Francisco – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement to mark Nowruz, the Persian New Year, which begins on Sunday:

“Nowruz Mobarak! On the first day of Spring, Iranian Americans across the country celebrate Nowruz. This ‘new day’ marks a period of renewal, joy, and optimism for the Iranian American community. It is also a chance for Iranian-American families to celebrate change, reflect on rebirth, and welcome health and happiness in the upcoming year.

“In my home city of San Francisco and around the country, Iranian Americans have long contributed to America’s rich cultural heritage. California, home to more than half of our nation’s Iranian American community, is proud to celebrate the contributions of our neighbors who have helped make America more American.

“To all who celebrate Nowruz in America, Iran, and around the world, we wish you a year of peace and prosperity. Eid-eh Shoma Mobarak.”
