Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Sarah Brady

April 3, 2015
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the passing of Sarah Brady, who died today at the age of 73:
"Sarah Kemp Brady's indomitable spirit taught us how compassion and faith can triumph over despair. After her beloved late husband, Jim, was shot, her courage and resilience shored up America's commitment to creating a more just, peaceful society.
"Through her advocacy on behalf of families who have suffered the agonizing loss of a loved one through gun violence, Sarah empowered the nation to act. Sarah and Jim Brady's tireless advocacy resulted in the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which has saved countless lives since 1994.
"Through her legacy of service as an educator and loving caregiver, Sarah encouraged us to act with selflessness to secure a better future for our children. May it be a source of comfort to her children, Scott and Missy, her family, and loved ones that so many share in their grief at this difficult time."
