Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the passing of John King, Sr.:
"Today, San Francisco lost a much beloved community leader and decades-long advocate for our elderly and physically-disabled residents.
"John King dedicated his life to serving the frail and elderly in Visitacion Valley and adjacent neighborhoods. When I first ran for Congress, John King introduced me to his beautiful sunny neighborhood and impressed upon me the growing needs of the seniors living there.
"His knowledge, vision and perseverance culminated in the John King Senior Center, a multi-purpose, multi-ethnic neighborhood center. The center provides a safe haven for seniors, including transportation services, social opportunities, health and nutrition education and housing assistance. It was an honor for me to participate in and witness the growth of this center.
"I have lost a wise and cherished friend. I hope it is a comfort to his beloved wife Violette, his sons John ‘Subiani’ King, Jr. and Jerome King, and his grandchildren that countless San Franciscans join them in mourning his passing."
