Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement this evening on the passing of John F. "Jack" Henning:

"It is with deep personal sadness that I received the news of the passing of a great leader, John F. 'Jack' Henning.

"Jack Henning will long be remembered for his distinguished career on the front lines of the labor movement, fighting passionately for justice, equality, and human rights here and around the world.

"A public servant who dedicated his life to his country, he served in the administrations of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. In his long career as the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, he represented millions of California?s workers with great distinction.

"On this day, we celebrate his life, remember his illustrious contributions to the state of California and our nation, and we honor his legacy."
