Charlotte, NC - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the passing of former North Carolina Congressman Charlie Rose:

"Today, our thoughts and prayers rest with the family, friends, and loved ones of our former colleague, a dear friend to many in Congress, and a strong leader for the people of North Carolina: Congressman Charlie Rose. As Democrats gather this week in Charlotte, we all mourn the loss of a proud son of this state, a true southern populist, and a bold voice for progress throughout his 24 years in the House.

"Congressman Rose always put North Carolina first – fighting for the interests of farmers and rural families as a senior Member of the Agriculture Committee. He championed the institution of Congress – increasing the use of technology and modernizing the operations of the House as Chairman of the House Administration Committee. He was a dedicated public servant, serving as an effective, committed advocate for his constituents throughout his career.

"For those who served with Congressman Rose, it was an honor to know him as a fellow Member of Congress and as a cherished friend. I hope it is a comfort to his wife, Stacye Hefner, and his four children that so many grieve their loss at this time."
