Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passing of disability rights advocate and wife of late Senator John Glenn, Annie Glenn, at age 100:
"Today, Ohioans and all Americans have lost a leader of tremendous personal courage and extraordinary generosity of spirit: Annie Glenn.
"Annie Glenn was respected and loved by all as a mentor and an inspiration, whose strength in overcoming and speaking out about her struggle with communicative disorders empowered millions. Her leadership strengthened the voices of so many Americans living with disabilities and, in doing so, strengthened our nation.
"Shortly before her husband John's passing, I had the privilege of spending time with the Glenn family. The beautiful devotion between John and Annie was legendary. May it be a comfort to their children, David and Lyn, and their entire family to know that Annie and John are together once more. May it also be a comfort that so many mourn their loss and pray for them at this sad time."
