Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following House passage of the bipartisan, bicameral Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, which protects American consumers from fraud and abuse from robocalls and restores public trust in our telecommunications:

"Today, the House of Representatives has taken decisive action to safeguard American consumers from the harassment, fraud and abuse of robocalls by passing the Pallone-Thune TRACED Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation is a critical step to ensure that wrongdoers are held accountable, while restoring trust and transparency in the communications systems that Americans rely on every day. Critically, this legislation ensures that every call that Americans receive can be blocked at no extra cost to consumers.

"Each year, the billions of scam calls inflicted on the American people threaten their health, financial security and well-being, from disrupting hospitals and impersonating IRS agents and public officials to dangerous cases of identity theft. House Democrats are proud to honor the will and protect the well-being of the American people with this strong legislation, as we continue to deliver progress For The People that makes a difference in the lives of all Americans."
