San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement on the Senate’s failure to reauthorize The Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA), bipartisan legislation to protect American businesses from financial ruin following a terrorist attack.

“The Senate had an opportunity to remove uncertainty for businesses, for our economy, and for the American people by renewing bipartisan legislation that provides insurance coverage for businesses following a terrorist attack on American soil.

“TRIA has helped businesses and communities rebuild and thrive in the years since September 11, 2001.  But partisanship blocked progress yesterday when a single Senator bogged down the legislation.  The American people want our government to work as hard as they do, and the failure to renew this critical legislation jeopardizes the economic security of our nation.

“Without insurance, American entrepreneurs eager to set up shop in San Francisco and across the country may not build, may not expand, and may not create the jobs that spur economic growth.  For families, businesses, and our economy, we must make reauthorization a priority in the next Congress.”
