Pelosi Statement on the Devastating Tornadoes in Alabama

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the deadly tornadoes in Lee County, Alabama, which have killed at least 23 people:

"The hearts of all Americans break for the families and victims of the catastrophic tornadoes in Alabama that have destroyed homes and devastated lives. We are grateful to the heroic first responders and countless volunteers who have tirelessly searched for survivors and given aid and assistance to those in need.

"In the wake of these deadly tornadoes, federal, state and local authorities must do everything in their power to assist the rescue effort and provide all necessary resources to help those impacted by this disaster now and on the long road to recovery.

"All Americans deserve to know that their government will be there for them when disaster strikes, without question and without hesitation. Congress will stand by the families reeling from this tragedy, and will fight to help this community recover and rebuild."
