Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in recognition of the Holy month of Ramadan:

"For millions of Muslim families in America and around the world, the Holy Month of Ramadan is a special season of prayer, spiritual renewal and joy. This month offers all Muslims a time of peaceful reflection and an opportunity to proudly celebrate cultural and religious traditions.

"This month offers us all a chance to celebrate the innumerable contributions that Muslim Americans have made to our nation and reaffirm our shared commitment to advance the bedrock values of liberty, diversity and freedom of religion that unite our communities. For generations, Muslim Americans' hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and dedicated, patriotic service have strengthened and enriched the beautiful fabric of our nation and, in the process, made America more American.

"As we begin this Holy Month, our nation and the world confront a historic health and economic crisis. During this challenging time, all Americans give thanks for our heroic frontline workers, including countless Muslim Americans, who are risking their lives and are separated from their families in order to keep our communities safe and healthy. In the spirit of this Holy Season, we must all join our Muslim friends and neighbors to pray for the well-being of our communities and a year ahead filled with the blessings of health, happiness and the love of our families. Ramadan Mobarak."
