San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement marking the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative and Day of Action on Immigration:

"Today, we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the landmark, life-changing DACA initiative at a moment of crisis for our young DREAMers and for the fundamental American values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

"Our nation's DREAMers are an inspiration to us all, and their patriotism and bravery make America more American. We should be embracing these patriotic, hard-working young men and women, yet Republicans across the nation are launching a vicious campaign to tear away the protections of DACA. The Trump Administration should fully defend DACA and ensure that our young DREAMers are not subject to the senseless cruelty of deportation – not continue to terrorize immigrant families in communities across America.

"Democrats will never forget that in diversity lies strength and that our immigrants are the constant reinvigoration of America. We will continue to fight to pass comprehensive immigration reform, and to protect our nation's families from the Trump Administration's mass deportation agenda."
