Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today commemorating the 27th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990:

"Today, we mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a milestone achievement that opened doors and expanded opportunities for the 55 million Americans who live with disabilities. The ADA recognizes the dignity and worth of all Americans, and takes a strong step toward building a more equal, inclusive society free from discrimination.

"Our nation is stronger when all Americans can contribute their talents to our economy and society. Yet, Republicans remain gripped by their fevered obsession with ripping away the health care millions of Americans, including those with disabilities, rely on. No matter how they dress it up, Trumpcare delivers devastation for Americans with disabilities, exploding their health costs, eviscerating their coverage, slashing funding for public schools and cutting access to the services needed to live independent, full lives.

"As our nation celebrates this landmark victory for equality, Democrats will fight tooth and nail to protect our care, defeat Trumpcare and stand up for the rights and dignity of every single American man, woman and child."
