Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement announcing that Congresswoman Doris Matsui will temporarily replace Congressman Mark DeSaulnier on the Rules Committee, as he continues his treatment and recovery from non-COVID related pneumonia:
"Congressman Mark DeSaulnier is an outstanding Member of Congress and cherished Member of our Caucus, who is greatly missed by all during this sad time. On the Rules Committee, his vast knowledge, steady leadership and wise counsel have been a critical part of House Democrats' work For The People. We all pray for him as he continues to receive treatment for and recover from this illness, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the Rules Committee and Congress as soon as possible.
"As Congressman DeSaulnier recovers, House Democrats are very pleased that Congresswoman Doris Matsui will be returning to the Rules Committee for this temporary assignment. Congresswoman Matsui has long been a powerful force for progress in the Congress and Country, particularly as a leading Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and my appointment to the Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents. We are confident that her depth of knowledge and wealth of experience will be instrumental to House Democrats' fight to make Washington work for the public interest, not the special interests."
