Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Stay of Clean Power Plan Rule

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to stay implementation of the Clean Power Plan rule pending the review of suits before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals:

“The Supreme Court’s deeply misguided decision to stay the implementation of the Clean Power Plan will enable those states that deny climate science to slow progress in reducing the carbon pollution that threatens the health of all Americans.

“In the face of rising asthma rates, record droughts and surging oceans there can be no question: the damage of carbon pollution threatens the health of our children, the strength of our economy, and the security of our nation. We cannot afford more willful blindness to the reality or the severity of the climate crisis.

“More than 195 nations have pledged historic action in the Paris Climate Accord and communities across America are leading on clean energy. We are confident the Clean Power Plan will be upheld and we can move forward with implementing this vital measure to protect the health of our communities in all 50 states.”
