Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Supreme Court announced it would grant certiorari to the Texas reproductive rights case:

"For over forty years, the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that a woman's health decisions must be her own, in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith. I am pleased the Supreme Court will be hearing the challenge to Texas politicians' appalling attempt to deny women their constitutional right to make their own reproductive health decisions.

"Across the country, women are witnessing a brazen and concerted Republican effort to dismantle their constitutional right to comprehensive health care – from the radical attempts to eliminate women's access to contraceptive coverage through the courts, to the unconscionable efforts to allow employers to meddle in their employees' most intimate reproductive decisions. Republicans have even decided they have the right to waste taxpayer money on a Select Committee to Attack Women's Health.

"The American people want their leaders to work to create jobs and raise the wages of hard-working families. Yet Republicans cannot move past their backward obsession with rolling back women's health care rights. I am confident the Supreme Court will uphold Roe v. Wade and four decades of Supreme Court precedent by striking down this unconstitutional Texas law."
