Washington, D.C. â€" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon on the announcement that Congress will hold a special session tonight and tomorrow to pass a $10 billion emergency supplemental spending bill for disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina:

â€Å"I am pleased that Speaker Hastert has agreed to my request for a special session of Congress to get to work immediately and bring relief to the victims of this horrific natural disaster. This is a clear and unmistakable bipartisan signal to the people of the Gulf Coast region that we are going to do everything in our power to recover and rebuild.

â€Å"While we are all devastated by the enormity of this tragedy, our faith, tenacity and determination ensure that we will work with great resolve to do all that we can to stem the crisis and help those in desperate need.”
