Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement regarding the latest California wildfires:
“Today, our prayers go to the thousands of families affected by the fires raging throughout southern California.  Americans everywhere send our deepest condolences to all who have lost their homes and businesses and whose lives have been upended by this latest disaster.  The firefighters and first responders standing on the front lines of these blazes deserve our utmost praise and gratitude for their bravery and heroism in the face of grave danger.
“As we continue to monitor the situation, we urge all residents to remain vigilant.  It is critical to listen to local authorities who are instructing families to prepare to evacuate at a moment’s notice.  We are all grateful for FEMA Fire Management Assistance Grants, which along with additional state, local and federal resources, are providing first responders with the resources they urgently need to combat the flames.
“Congress and the federal government must assist the people of California now and throughout the long road to recovery.  We pledge to stand with the families and communities devastated by this disaster, and work tirelessly to provide healing and help them rebuild.”
