Pelosi Statement on Signing of California High-Speed Rail Legislation

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after California Governor Brown signed legislation to fund High-Speed Rail.

“Today as California’s high-speed rail legislation becomes law, our state gathers speed in heading toward a future of world-class infrastructure, economic growth, and 21st century jobs.

“The Bay Area will benefit enormously from the high-speed link to Los Angeles via the Transbay Transit Center, the electrification of Caltrain, and $61 million in investments for the Central Subway. California’s communities will be transformed and linked across the state. And our nation will enjoy increased global competitiveness, reduced dependence on foreign oil, and more affordable and convenient transportation options for all Americans.

“Today is possible because of leadership at the federal, state, and local levels; from Secretary LaHood and Governor Brown to stalwart advocates in the California Senate and Assembly, this has been a partnership for progress.

“With high-speed rail, California is on-track for jobs and prosperity.”
