San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the September jobs report, which showed that the U.S. created 263,000 jobs last month and a 3.5 percent unemployment rate: "Today's jobs numbers offer further proof that America remains on a path of strong, sustainable job growth. Under President Biden and a Democratic Congress, our nation has seen the strongest jobs recovery in modern times: with ten million more Americans having the dignity and security of a regular paycheck, the unemployment rate matching the lowest level in five decades, and Hispanic unemployment at an all-time low. "This progress was powered by Democrats' robust economic agenda: from powering our nation out of the pandemic with our Rescue Plan, to putting Americans to work rebuilding our nation with our Infrastructure Law, to bringing jobs in research and manufacturing back to our shores with the CHIPS and Science Act. At every turn, Republicans overwhelmingly opposed these laws – and the historic job creation they have sparked. At the same time, while Democrats are lowering kitchen table costs for families with our Inflation Reduction Act, House Republicans have put forth an extreme MAGA agenda that would raise prescription drug prices, slash Social Security and Medicare, and diminish our economy. "Make no mistake: Republicans want to raise costs on the backs of America's working families.
