Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland becoming the longest-serving female Senator in history:

"Senator Barbara Mikulski is a pioneer, forging the path for the generations of women who came after her. As the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in her own right, she exemplified bravery, political savvy, and a fierce commitment to serving America's working families. And today, as she becomes the longest-serving female Senator in history, she demonstrates the enduring nature of her leadership and her accomplishments.

"It is a point of personal pride to me that Senator Mikulski and I both grew up in Baltimore, and attended the same high school: the Institute of Notre Dame.

"Long may Senator Mikulski's record stand."
