Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland becoming the longest-serving female Senator in history:

As the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in her own right, she exemplified bravery, political savvy, and a fierce commitment to serving America's working families. And today, as she becomes the longest-serving female Senator in history, she demonstrates the enduring nature of her leadership and her accomplishments.

"It is a point of personal pride to me that Senator Mikulski and I both grew up in Baltimore, and attended the same high school: the Institute of Notre Dame.
