Pelosi Statement on Senate Tax Cut Votes

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Senate passed Democratic legislation to extend the middle class tax cuts and rejected the Republican bill to protect tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans:

“Today, the Senate took a stand on the side of certainty, fairness and security for America’s middle class and small businesses. It’s time for the House to follow suit.

“Make no mistake: with the Senate’s action, House Republicans are the only roadblocks standing between the middle class and a tax cut bill that the President will sign.

“Republicans are running out of excuses. The Senate rejected their bill to raise taxes on 25 million middle class families and bust our deficit. Now, House Republicans must stop holding tax cuts for 98 percent of Americans hostage to tax breaks for the top 2 percent and pass the middle class tax cuts without delay.”
