Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Senate passed the reauthorization of the Import-Export Bank. The legislation now heads to President Obama for his signature:

“Today, Congress sent a strong signal to American businesses: we will help them get their products into markets abroad, and in doing so, we will create jobs here at home. By defeating extreme Republican amendments that effectively would have killed the Export-Import Bank, we stood strong for small and medium-sized businesses, who receive the vast majority of the Bank’s support and are the backbone of our economy.

“In the House, we have been led in this effort by Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer who took strong leadership to create American jobs and keep our nation competitive by reauthorizing the U.S. Export-Import Bank. Now House Republicans should stop obstructing bipartisan bills that have passed the Senate and would create jobs and strengthen the middle class.

“Keeping America number one is central to Democrats’ Make It in America jobs agenda; today, we have taken strong action to ensure American competitiveness in the 21st century.”
