Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Senate passed the 2012 Farm Bill:

“Today’s passage in the Senate of the Farm Bill is a positive step forward on legislation that invests in our communities and creates jobs. It also puts pressure on the House to act swiftly; just days after Republican leadership halted the forward momentum the Farm Bill had in this chamber. The Senate bill is a bipartisan bill that seeks to balance the interests of all Farm Bill stakeholders and the 16 million workers in the agriculture industry.

“I’m proud that in 2008, we worked in a bipartisan way to pass the last Farm Bill, which Ranking Member Colin Peterson has called, ‘the best Farm Bill in the history of our nation.’ I hope that we can take similar bipartisan action again this year, and that the Republican leadership stops stalling and let the House Agriculture Committee move a bill to the floor.

“Let’s get to work to create jobs for the American people; let’s pass a bipartisan Farm Bill this year.”
