Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement after Senate Democrats successfully blocked a motion to send the Homeland Security funding bill to a House-Senate conference committee, by a vote of 47 to 43, with 60 votes needed:

"House Republicans' anti-immigrant riders are beneath the dignity of a conference committee. It is long overdue for House Republicans to stop the obstruction of full funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

"Every House Democrat has already pledged their support for a clean, long-term spending bill, and it is clear that a clean, long-term DHS funding bill is the only way to avert the second manufactured crisis Republicans have created in just the last two weeks.

"The world is far too dangerous for House Republicans to show so little regard for the security of American families. Republicans should join with Democrats to keep the American people safe, protect our homeland, and bring a clean, long-term DHS funding bill to a vote immediately."
