Washington, D.C. – Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi released this statement after securing a $15 million grant from the Department of Transportation for the first phase of the $71.5 million Better Market Street initiative. Funding comes from the FY 2018 Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants, formerly known as TIGER grants.

"It is a privilege to announce this new, transformative investment in San Francisco's infrastructure, which will help deliver a modern, efficient transit system worthy of America's cradle of innovation. The Better Market Street Initiative will cut through the congestion and improve speed and capacity for millions of workers, students and families, while better protecting pedestrians and bicycles.

"It gives me great pride to have been a strong, early supporter of the Better Market Street initiative, and I look forward to continuing to fight for smart, robust infrastructure investments that create good paying jobs, reduce pollution and improve safety in the Bay Area and around the country.

"When House Democrats take the gavel, we will fight For The People: lower health costs, raise wages by rebuilding America and clean up corruption to make Washington work for everyone."
