Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in recognition of Rosh Hashanah beginning on Sunday evening:

"Rosh Hashanah represents a period of repentance, introspection, and a moment to recommit to tikkun olam, the call to repair the world and cherish justice for all people.

"As Jewish Americans celebrate, and reflect, may the sound of the shofar on this Rosh Hashanah reverberate in communities around the world as an enduring symbol of faith, freedom, and world peace.

"Our nation's motto – ‘E Pluribus Unum', out of many, one – celebrates the beautiful diversity of our great country. For families celebrating Rosh Hashanah, Shana tovah u'metukah – may you have a happy, healthy, sweet and prosperous new year."
