Pelosi Statement on Resignation of FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after it was announced that Dr. Margaret Hamburg will step down as commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration:
"It is with great admiration and appreciation that I commend Commissioner Margaret Hamburg as she steps down from the FDA after almost six years of dedicated and effective service.
"Under Dr. Hamburg's leadership, the improvements in FDA's drug review process have been remarkable. The Agency has become the acknowledged leader among the world's regulatory agencies in both the number of new drugs approved each year and in the timeliness of review. Today, it remains the world's leader.
"In thanking Commissioner Hamburg for her service, I offer my sincerest congratulations for her accomplishments, and wish her all the best in the future."
