Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following the adoption of House Republicans' rules package for the 115th Congress:

"On the first day of the 115th Congress, House Republicans were not focused on creating jobs, raising wages, or meeting the needs of hard-working families. Instead, with their very first actions of the new Congress, House Republicans put forward a shameful rules package that once again exposes their commitment to a special interest agenda that threatens the health and security of millions of Americans.

"House Republicans are showing their willingness to deliver for their special interest friends – even if it means silencing calls to act on gun violence prevention on the House Floor, violating the regular order of the People's House, violating the sacred commitments to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and violating their own principles to attack the Affordable Care Act.

"Through their attacks on the ACA, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and their effort to punish the voices for gun violence prevention in the House, this Republican Congress is already working to undermine the health and economic security of the American people."
