Pelosi Statement on Reported Chemical Weapons Attack in Syria

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following reports of a chemical weapons attack by the Syrian regime targeting civilians in Douma, Syria:

"If confirmed, another chemical weapons attack by Bashar al-Assad's regime against its own people would be a war crime of staggering inhumanity. The murder of innocent children violates every standard of morality and our common humanity.

"The international community must respond to this atrocity with strength and unity, and a thorough investigation. Putin must be held accountable for his cynical support of Assad, and for enabling these war crimes.

"Members of Congress expect a comprehensive intelligence briefing on this attack as soon as possible. The Trump Administration must finally provide a smart, strong and consistent strategy in Syria."
