Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in response to nearly $9 million granted to San Francisco under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to prevent homelessness:

â€Å"Today, the Obama Administration allocated nearly $9 million to the City of San Francisco to combat homelessness. These critical funds will help many families most in need in our community pay for their housing costs.

â€Å"While the causes of homelessness are complex, this funding will assist in finding homes for families who fall into homelessness, or prevent families from becoming homeless in the first place.

â€Å"These essential American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds complement the City of San Francisco's ongoing innovative and effective initiatives to address homelessness.

â€Å"Reducing homelessness is a priority for me in Congress, and I'm pleased to see that communities across the country will be aided by these vital funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”

The funding is provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to help persons and families facing a sudden financial crisis that could lead to homelessness. The City of San Francisco is receiving $8,757,780.
