Pelosi Statement on Record Debt Under Trump and Congressional Republicans

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that President Trump and Congressional Republicans' policies are pushing the economy toward record-breaking levels of debt:

"Republicans broke the bank handing massive giveaways to big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent through their tax scam for the rich, and now are cynically using the deficit they created to justify slashing Medicare, Medicaid and the health care of the American people.

"The GOP's blatant hypocrisy is on full display as they explode the debt by giving massive giveaways to the special interests and the wealthiest 1 percent, while slashing Medicare and Medicaid in the name of so-called ‘fiscal responsibility.' Democrats will continue to fight to give the American people A Better Deal, with Better Jobs, Better Wages and a Better Future for everyone."
