Pelosi Statement on Ramadan

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of the holy month of Ramadan:

“The Holy Month of Ramadan marks a period of fasting and family, prayer and peace, discipline and devotion for American Muslim families and Muslims around the globe. Whether as athletes and artists, scholars and scientists, public servants or proud members of our Armed Forces valiantly protecting and defending our nation, American Muslims exemplify what it means to be an American.

“Our founders challenged us with a simple creed that sums up the values of our nation: ‘E Pluribus Unum’, out of many we are one. Our diversity is our strength – diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and faiths. As families across the country come together to observe Ramadan, all of us have a responsibility to confront the bigotry and discrimination too often suffered by American Muslims.

"This month, we celebrate the beautiful diversity American Muslims have brought to our nation for generations. We wish our neighbors, co-workers, families and friends a blessed Ramadan. May this Ramadan bring wisdom, generosity and blessings to all Muslim Americans. Ramadan Kareem.”
