Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after President Obama vetoed Republicans' reconciliation bill defunding Planned Parenthood:
"Today, President Obama vetoed the Republicans' outrageous attempt to take family planning and lifesaving preventive care away from millions of American women and repeal the Affordable Care Act.
"Now, Republicans have engaged in an unprecedented abuse of House rules to delay the inevitable failure of their reconciliation bill. Republicans are taking extraordinary measures to postpone the veto override vote, but the outcome will be the same. House Democrats will sustain the President's veto and defeat Republicans' latest attack on women's health.
"Republicans have done nothing but disrespect women's judgement and waste time and taxpayer dollars. Hard-working American families want Congress to be creating more good-paying jobs and raising their paychecks – not grandstanding on women's most intimate decisions."
