Washington, D.C. â€" Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon in response to the Bush Administration’s decision not to renew their domestic spying program:

â€Å"The decision by the Bush Administration to require approval from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for the President’s domestic surveillance program is a long-overdue recognition that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) process is fully capable of considering requests to employ these techniques.

â€Å"Although the judge’s order announced today needs to be reviewed thoroughly, the fact that the President will no longer be authorizing unilaterally intrusive surveillance of people in the United States is good news.”
