Pelosi Statement on President’s Budget Replacing Sequester

Philadelphia – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement ahead of the President's forthcoming announcement to House Democrats' Issues Conference that he will replace the sequester in his upcoming budget:

"For too long, the draconian cuts of the sequester have strangled our investments to keep America #1 in the global economy and to ensure our national security. Republicans' insistence on these unbalanced and irresponsible cuts has cost jobs and slowed our economy.

"Only by investing in the future will we grow the wages of working families and achieve real, lasting deficit reduction. We must strengthen our investments in infrastructure, in education, and in research and innovation, especially at NIH. The President's plan to replace the sequester with a budget that creates jobs and opportunities for the middle class is just what the American people need.

"House Democrats have always stood for replacing the sequester with responsible and balanced deficit reduction built on middle class economics and tax fairness for hard working Americans. We will continue to champion a budget for the future that strengthens our national defense and invests in the working families who are the backbone of our country."
