Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today following President Obama's remarks at the United Nations Climate Change Summit:

"President Obama reaffirmed America's commitment to transition to a clean energy economy that creates jobs and reduces global warming pollution. The President emphasized the urgency of taking action at home and working together with our global partners to reduce emissions worldwide.

"The New Direction Congress has laid the groundwork for this transition through our historic investments in fuel efficient vehicles, and renewable energy and efficiency. In the House, we have passed the Waxman-Markey clean energy jobs bill. Congress must work to send a comprehensive clean energy and climate bill to the President's desk as soon as possible to ensure the success of the Copenhagen negotiations."
