Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after President Obama signed the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act, part of Democrats’ “Make It In America” national manufacturing strategy. This legislation will increase the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers and firms, and support tens of thousands of jobs here at home:

“In signing the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act today, President Obama reaffirmed Democrats’ clear message: when we ‘make it in America,’ we create jobs and lead the world economy.

“This critical legislation – part of our ‘Make it in America’ agenda to revitalize our manufacturing base and create jobs in America – won the support of a bipartisan majority in the House and Senate, yet House Republican leaders opposed it – choosing political gamesmanship over America’s workers. This same approach led most Congressional Republicans to vote against yesterday’s measure to protect teachers, law enforcement, and private sector jobs at home, and vote to preserve tax breaks for corporations that ship American jobs overseas.

“President Obama and Democrats in Congress continue to move America forward, with better jobs and a stronger manufacturing sector, rejecting the calls of Congressional Republicans to return to the ‘exact same agenda’ of the failed Bush years. We are not going back to the failed Republican policies of the past.”
