Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on President Obama's announcement of new restrictions, reviews and reforms regarding the practices and operations of the National Security Agency and other agencies:

"Today, President Obama laid out the challenges that face our nation as we work to strike the right balance between ensuring our national security and defending our privacy and civil liberties. The initiatives announced by the President today enhance this effort, and Congress stands ready to work with the Administration as we move forward.

"We must give full and thoughtful consideration to the President's actions announced today, and we look forward to reviewing the findings and recommendations of the independent Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board later this month."
