Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the release of the President's FY 2015 budget request:

"The President's budget reflects the top priorities of the American people: creating jobs, closing the opportunity gap, strengthening the middle class, and building an economy that works for everyone. This budget is a clear statement of our values as a nation, a nation that believes in fairness, opportunity, and hard work as the bedrock of our way of life.

"The President's proposal aims to renew confidence in those principles, eliminating unfair tax loopholes for the wealthy and well-connected, expanding tax cuts for working Americans, and raising new ladders of opportunity with key commitments to education and job training. It lays the foundation of a brighter, stronger future through investments in research and infrastructure, and maintains the President's commitment to responsible and balanced deficit reduction. With comprehensive immigration reform alone, we can reduce the deficit by $158 billion – in addition to creating jobs, protecting American workers, fueling innovation, and energizing our economy.

"While Republicans feverishly work to reward their special interest friends with tax breaks, and maximize the pain of hard working Americans, Democrats will continue to advance an opportunity agenda that empowers all Americans to realize a better tomorrow for themselves and their families. It is time for Republicans to end their callous and shortsighted obstruction, and join Democrats to pass a budget that creates jobs, expands opportunity, reduces the deficit, and invests in the future."
