Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding House Republicans' bill to permanently extend the Research and Experimentation Credit:

"Once again, House Republicans are displaying their utter disregard for struggling American families. Republicans are willing to make permanent changes in the law that would add more than $150 billion to the deficit. Yet they refuse to even consider allowing a vote on bipartisan, fully paid-for legislation to temporarily extend emergency unemployment insurance for millions of struggling Americans.

"Republicans have failed to include any of the tax credits so vital to American families: not the Earned Income Tax Credit; not the Child Tax Credit; not the American Opportunity Tax Credit that helps pay for college; and not the Work Opportunity Tax Credit that supports the hiring of Americans with obstacles to employment. Their legislation is just more of the same from the party whose budget raises taxes on middle class families with children, and gives a $200,000 tax break to millionaires.

"We need a more responsible and effective approach, like the one represented in the bipartisan two-year Senate tax extenders bill that provides critical support to teachers, students and homeowners. It is time for Republicans to stop ignoring hard working American families, and work with Democrats to create jobs, invest in innovation, and build an economy that works for everyone – not just the wealthy."
