Pelosi Statement on Payroll Tax Cut and Unemployment Insurance

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today calling on Congressional Republicans to work with Democrats to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits before they expire at the end of the year:

“Speaker Boehner and Congressional Republicans risk raising taxes on 160 million Americans to protect the 300,000 wealthiest Americans.

“While families sit around the kitchen table worried about whether they can buy toys for their children during the holidays and still pay the bills in January, Republicans are holding up a $1,500 tax cut for the typical middle class family.

“Democrats have said we can’t go home for the holidays until we extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits. Republicans should join Democrats at the table to get the job done now.”
