Pelosi Statement on Passage of John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act
"Today, the House passed the bipartisan John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act, and helped fulfill our sacred responsibility to be good stewards of God's creation while ensuring a healthy future for our children and grandchildren. This legislation honors the proud legacy of its namesake, the late Chairman John Dingell, whose remarkable leadership and vision were instrumental in safeguarding our precious public lands, vulnerable wildlife and natural resources.
"Exactly one hundred years after the creation of Grand Canyon National Park, the Congress is taking bold action to reaffirm our nation's lasting commitment to conservation. This new law will protect millions of acres of wilderness, expand many of our beautiful national parks, increase acreage and funding for recreation in local communities, and make the Land and Water Conservation Fund permanent to guarantee all Americans can access these and other precious public resources forever. In California, we are immensely proud of our awe-inspiring parks and public lands, and today's legislation will add an additional 450,000 acres for recreation and preservation of historic sites and Native lands that are often the heart of our communities and local economies.
"At this critical time for our nation and our planet, House Democrats are committed to taking decisive action to protect Americans' health and public lands with clean air and clean water while investing in good-paying, green jobs of the 21st Century. We will move forward in a bipartisan way to build on the progress we have made to advance a strong and sustainable future for generations to come."
