Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House leaders held a photo opportunity with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today. Below are her opening remarks:

"Good afternoon. I'm very pleased and honored to be able to welcome the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the Capitol of the United States. The relationship between our two countries is an important one. Issues like fighting terrorism, stability in South Asia, economic development in Pakistan are important to both our countries.

"I also want to express my sorrow in the death of Benazir Bhutto. She was a friend to many of us here and that link to Pakistan is one that will continue our great friendship.

"But for you, Mr. Prime Minister, congratulations on the eloquent statement of the Pakistani people in electing a democratic government there. We wish you every success and it is bipartisan."
