Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement to mark the anniversary of the attack at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, which occurred on June 12, 2016:
“Today, we solemnly mark the one-year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting: a horrific act of violence that claimed the lives of 49 innocent men and women enjoying a night of dancing. We pause to remember those who lost their lives, and we send our prayers to the survivors and family members still suffering from the brutality and heartbreak of this attack.
“It was a particularly cruel injustice that this attack was carried out during Pride Month. But, on this somber anniversary, let us reaffirm beyond all doubt that hatred will not defeat our pride. And let us reaffirm our commitment to the fight to ensure that all people enjoy equality and dignity, no matter who they are or who they love.
“May it be a comfort to the loved ones of those who were killed, and all the people of Orlando, that so many across America stand with them in grief, in solidarity and in pride.”
