Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 80,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate fell to 9 percent. With 104,000 jobs added by private businesses, this marks the 20th consecutive month of private sector job growth, totaling 2.8 million jobs:

"The American people's top priority is job creation – and there's no time to waste. Today's jobs report reaffirms the urgency of this task: too many Americans remain out of work. That's why Democrats have called on the Supercommittee to promote America's entrepreneurial spirit as the centerpiece of its work as its members strive for a big, bold and balanced plan.

"After more than 300 days in the majority, Republicans have failed to enact a jobs agenda –and Americans can't wait any longer for us to act. It’s time for Republicans to join us to pass the American Jobs Act and our ‘Make It In America’ agenda.

“Democrats are committed to creating jobs, building ladders of opportunity for our families, workers, and small businesses, and reigniting the American dream for all."
