Pelosi Statement on Obama Administration’s Summer Jobs+ Initiative

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Obama Administration’s new Summer Jobs+ initiative:

“Today’s announcement from the Obama Administration about the creation of the Summer Jobs+ initiative is great news for America’s young people, our economy, and our future. By working with business leaders and local communities to create youth jobs, President Obama is investing in the strength of our nation.

“Summer jobs were a centerpiece of President Obama’s American Jobs Act, which Republicans in the House have refused to bring to the floor for a vote. The President agrees with Democrats in Congress: we cannot wait, we must create jobs now. This year, because of the President’s leadership, and the leadership of many Democrats in Congress, including Assistant Leader James Clyburn, 180,000 young people will be on the job, gaining skills, knowledge, and experience.”
